Barbara Hepworth

As a student at Leeds and the Royal College of Art, Barbara Hepworth began her career as carver of wood, stone and marble, in which she pursued a simplified treatment of the human figure. In 1934 however, her work became completely abstract creating forms of the simplest and purest kind.
