Sir Jacob Epstein

Sir Jacob Epstein was born in New York and studied drawing while working in a bronze foundry. In 1902 he went to the École des Beaux-Arts and the Acadêmie Julian, Paris and moved to London in 1905. It was not unusual for works to be un-commissioned; often they were friends, casual acquaintances and people stopped in the street and asked if they were willing to come to the studio.
