The collection of prints, which was intended to complement the British drawings and watercolours, is mainly of works by foreign artists. It was formed in just under seven years, from 1964 onwards, and numbers about 150 works, including many masterpieces. Though it starts with examples of Durer, Rembrandt, Piranesi and Goya, the bulk of the collection dates from Daumier, Millet and the French Impressionists onwards and includes works by Degas, Cezanne, Bonnard, Matisse, Rouault, Picasso, Braque, Klee, Beckmann, Dali and Giacometti. |
