The Gallery has been collecting British watercolours since 1951. In 50 years it has acquired 600 of the best known images and examples by leading artists from the late 16^th century to the 1980s. A comprehensive catalogue of the watercolour and drawing collection, written by the late Evelyn Joll, the eminent Turner scholar has just been published in May 2002.
