A complex fern and convolvulus handkerchief of the late nineteenth century designed in the manner of the Arts and Crafts movement. The oval central motifs have been made separately and inserted with satin stitch in the style of Brussels lace popular at the time. The curved ferns at the corners create problems for the lace-maker due to the numbers of pairs involved.
