| Pembroke Table. Made of satinwood,
c.1790.
Height 73 cm, length 92.7 cm, depth 73.6 cm. This table dates from the George III period. It has a banded and box and ebony strung top, inlaid with an oval patera within a garrya husk border. There is a husk festooned drawer and the legs are tapered with brass caps and casters. These drop leaf tables were first designed by London based Thomas Chippendale. The table's style, characterised by its broad bed and shallow leaves was named 'Pembroke' in honour of the client for whom Chippendale designed the table. |
