Ladies evening purse or wallet embroidered in geometric ‘Islamic’ designs in maroon, grey and cream threads couched in silver and gold metallic threads. A clutch type purse lined in cream moire with two compartments. One has a small inner pocket and an attached change purse. The flap has a rectangular leather framed mirror attached to the inside. | Beaded purse. Multi-coloured
Czechoslovakian glass beads set against a deep red ground. An orange, blue
and yellow flower pattern is surrounded by a leafy swirl pattern in violet,
yellow, and blue with some orange and green. The same pattern graces the
back and front of the handbag. The looped fringe is of multi-coloured beads
and extends 5 cm. There is a beige silk lining with a ruffled gathered edge

| Hand made drawstring handbag in white brocade with pink and silver
threaded floral pattern. Lined in pink satin. The pink satin lined base is
stiffened with card, and edged in pink silk cord same as the pink drawstring
cord. The bag stands upright on the base and when pulled the drawstring forms a gathered opening. |

Evening bag, black ostrich feathers and black cotton
material framing the mask of a woman’s face. The bag is lined with white chiffon
and has a black ribbon handle. The mask decoration sits on a round base,
and is bordered by ostrich feathers. The mask is made of a cotton material, and
the features are painted on. The style is of a 1920’s Flapper as her brown
hair is adorned with yet more plumes. |

A handbag crocheted in a circular pattern from black silk
thread attached to an imitation ivory (caseine) frame. The frame has a floral
relief pattern, and the handle is made of similar plastic chain links. A black
push button opens the frame and inside is a black cotton lining. There is a
knotted black silk fringe along the edge of the bag. Most likely hand
crocheted to a pattern. |

| Beaded reticule on net background. Blue
crocheted header with cord drawstring. Lined in black cotton. Geometric abstract
floral design in yellow, green, pink and red on a grey ground. Tassel in
matching colours hangs off the bottom. Beaded bags employing somewhat larger glass beads on a net ground were common
in the 1920’s and most of the bags were made in Czechoslavakia and Germany with
wonderful Bohemian and Bavarian glass beads. D.49 |

Gold satin beaded evening bag. One side of the bag is
covered in black French cut beads in a mesh pattern using a deep brown silk
thread knotted to hold black beads in place to create a mesh effect. A 4 cm
looped black beaded fringe runs along the outside border of the bag. Suspended
from a long black silk corded handle with a gold satin covered bead. The purse
is self-lined in similar gold satin material. A border around the neck and
opening of the bag is made of black beads couched down against the satin. |
