| Evening dress red
muslin with red satin piping and triangular panels around the hem.
Matching red shawl with woven gold stripes. Shapes became less ethereal and more sculptural with bell shaped skirts raised off the floor often with deep bands of padding around the hem. The introduction of gigot or “leg of mutton sleeves” emphasised the shoulders and the comparative size of the waist that, with the return of the corset, was smaller and more defined, though still high. |
