Bedfordshire Artists

                                               (1805 – 1885) 

      A landscape painter in oil and watercolour, he was probably the son of Edward Rudge, a Birmingham and Coventry artist who taught at Rugby School. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the New Society of Painters in Watercolours in 1837 and again in 1863 and 1865. He settled in Bedford in 1837 where he was the first drawing master of the Harpur schools. He exhibited in London form 1840 to 1883, as well as at the annual exhibition at the Bedford Rooms. He retired in about 1875, although he still taught some private pupils. Many of his summer holidays were spent in North Wales. Otherwise his subjects were generally taken from Bedford and Surrey .
