Jobson Jackson not only painted nineteenth century Bedford, he also played a key role in shaping the town in his role as architect. He designed the extension for the County Gaol, the layout of Bedford Cemetery, collaborated with John Wing on the Bunyan Meeting House and assisted with the restoration of Saint Mary's Church. He lived in Bedford from 1846 and occupied the position of County Surveyor for Bedfordshire between 1854 and 1858. |
