The Cecil Higgins Gallery
has on permanent display the tapestry Bunyan's Dream
comprising eighty individual panels. These when brought together, show John Bunyan
in prison awakening from his dream on which the story of the Pilgrim’s
Progress is based. The Trustees of the gallery commissioned the work
from Edward Bawden in 1977 to commemorate the tercentenary of John Bunyan's
Pilgrims Progress and Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee. The work was
carried out by needlewomen from the Bedfordshire Music and Arts Club. |
